Collection: Ruby & Sapphire
The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) EX Ruby & Sapphire set is a historically significant release that marks Nintendo’s first foray into producing Pokémon cards after taking over the TCG license from Wizards of the Coast. This 109-card set, released on July 1, 2003, introduced Generation III Pokémon to the TCG and featured the debut of Pokémon-ex, a powerful new type of Pokémon card. Pokémon-ex are significantly stronger than regular Pokémon, and when a Pokémon-ex is knocked out, the opponent takes two prize cards instead of one.
The set includes over 40 brand new Pokémon, such as Treecko, Mudkip, and Torchic, each with different illustrations and moves. The design of the cards underwent several changes, including a thicker bottom border to accommodate the Dot-Code strip, silver artwork windows and evolution boxes, and smaller energy symbols presented linearly. Additionally, the text for attacks, Poké-Powers, and Poké-Bodies was displayed in a new line, separate from the name.
