Collection: Sega Genesis 32X Games
The Sega Genesis 32X is an add-on peripheral for the Sega Genesis video game console, designed to enhance the gaming experience by providing 32-bit capabilities. It was released in 1994 as a way for Sega to compete with the upcoming 32-bit consoles from other companies. The 32X was designed to be plugged directly into the cartridge slot of the Genesis, allowing it to play both Genesis and 32X games. However, there is a notable exception: the 16-bit game Virtua Racing does not work with the 32X due to a specific chip built into the game cartridge.
The 32X was equipped with two Hitachi SH-2 processors, each running at 23.5 MHz, which provided a significant boost in processing power compared to the original Genesis. This allowed for improved graphics and more complex game mechanics. Additionally, the 32X featured an enhanced audio system with extra sound channels and Q sound technology, which enabled multidimensional sound effects, approximating real-life auditory experiences in a stereo environment.
