The Sega Genesis, also referred to as the Mega Drive outside of North America, is a 16-bit home video game console released and created by Sega. It is the company's third console and succeeded the Master System. The console, originally known as the Mega Drive in Japan, was released in 1988 and in North America in 1989 as the Genesis.
