The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is the thirteenth main installment of The Legend of Zelda series, released for both the Nintendo GameCube and Wii. It was highly anticipated by many members of the gaming community and was regarded as finally fulfilling the dreams of those who wanted a much more realistic and mature Zelda game, as seen in the SpaceWorld 2000 GameCube Tech Demo. The game was first revealed at E3 2004 when Nintendo showed a teaser trailer of their new Zelda game to a small group, resulting in outrageous uproars from the viewers. The game was developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo, with Eiji Aonuma as the director and Shigeru Miyamoto as the produce.
The game takes place over a century after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, in an alternate timeline from The Wind Waker. Players control Link, who tries to prevent Hyrule from being engulfed by a corrupted parallel dimension, the Twilight Realm. The story begins when an evil darkness enshrouds the land of Hyrule, and a young farm boy named Link must awaken the hero and the animal within him. Raised to be a wrangler, looking after the farm's animals, Link's adventure begins when he is ordered by the mayor to attend the Hyrule Summit. As he sets off, he is oblivious to the dark fate which has descended upon the kingdom. When he enters the Twilight Realm that has covered Hyrule, he transforms into a wolf and is captured. A mysterious figure named Midna helps him break free, and with the aid of her magic, they set off to free the land from the shadows.
The game was originally planned for release exclusively on the GameCube in November 2005, but Nintendo delayed the release to refine the game, add more content, and port it to the Wii. In Japan, the Wii and GameCube versions had a simultaneous release in early December, although the latter was only available for purchase online. The GameCube version was released in December 2006 as the final first-party game for the console. The game features a stylized, naturalistic art style, similar to but more advanced than that found in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. These graphics are displayed by use of a heavily modified version of the The Wind Waker engine, which makes the graphics in Twilight Princess more realistic, as opposed to the cartoonish, cel-shaded design of The Wind Waker.
In the GameCube version, Link's main weapon is the sword, and he can also use a bow and arrow, as well as other items such as the Clawshot and the Gale Boomerang. The game also features a horse named Epona, which can be ridden to travel faster and access certain areas. The GameCube version offers gamers the freedom to execute certain moves, such as defending themselves while horseback riding and running with the sword on a different pose while holding B. Most importantly, players don't have to wait for the spin attack, also known as Whirling Blade, to recharge to use it again. Additionally, the GameCube version allows players to freely move the camera around with no "omnipotent look" option, providing more freedom in movement and coordination
