The Sega Genesis Model 2 is a compact and sleek version of the Sega Genesis console, released in 1994. It was designed to be a more compact and affordable alternative to the original Sega Genesis Model 1, which was larger and more expensive. The Model 2 features a smaller footprint and a redesigned layout that makes it more user-friendly. The console’s design includes a centralized placement of controller ports, making it easier for players to connect and use controllers.
One of the notable changes in the Model 2 is the removal of the headphone jack and RF output port from the front of the console. The power switch was also changed from a toggle switch to a button, and the reset button was moved to the opposite side of the power button. The Model 2 also requires a different power supply than the original Genesis, known as the MK-2103, which has a yellow tip and is compatible with the Sega 32X.
The AV output port on the Model 2 provides stereo sound, which is an improvement over the monophonic sound of the original model. The console retains the SEGA CD expansion port, making it compatible with both versions of the Sega CD. However, the Model 2’s AV cable is not compatible with the original Model 1 AV cable, but it offers a better picture quality when used with the Sega Composite RCA cable.
The Sega Genesis Model 2 is compatible with a wide range of games and accessories, including the Sega CD and the Sega 32X. It also supports the use of the Power Base Converter, which allows the console to play Sega Master System games. The console is known for its robust controller design, which is comfortable and durable, and it supports the use of multitaps for multiplayer games.
All consoles are tested prior to sale and come with a 72 hour warranty.
