Asphalt 3D is a racing game for the Nintendo 3DS handheld video game console, developed and produced by French video game developers Gameloft and released by Konami and Ubisoft in Japan on March 10, 2011, Europe on March 25, 2011, North America on March 27, 2011, and in Australia on March 31, 2011. It is a direct conversion of an Apple iOS game, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, and includes 17 tracks based on real-time locations and 42 licensed sports vehicles. The game received negative reviews, with much of the criticism directed at poor controls, numerous bugs, its visuals, and choppy framerate.
Asphalt 3D features rich, stereoscopic 3D graphics for the races and even the menus, allowing players to enjoy gameplay designed to take full advantage of the 3D screen as they weave between cars, drift inches from the curb, and navigate menus that come right out of the screen. Players can get behind the wheel of over 40 vehicles (cars and bikes) from prestigious manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, and Ducati. The game includes various high-speed challenges beyond a normal race, such as cash attack, vigilante, high-speed chase, drift, time trial, duel, and leader of the pack.
The game allows players to race in 17 exciting destinations, including Rio De Janeiro, St. Tropez, Aspen, Tokyo, and Las Vegas, with varied track surfaces, shortcuts, and spectacular jumps. Up to six players can challenge each other locally in wireless mode, and the game includes comprehensive tuning options to achieve peak performance for the vehicle. Additionally, the game features StreetPass, which allows players to exchange ghost data and race statistics with other players.
