Bravely Default is a role-playing game for the Nintendo 3DS, developed by Silicon Studio and published by Square Enix. It was originally released in 2012 and later rereleased as an expanded edition in 2013 subtitled For the Sequel in Japan. For the Sequel was later released in Europe, Australia, and North America in 2014 simply titled as Bravely Default and published by Nintendo in said regions. The game features a turn-based battle system and job system, allowing players to combine job abilities and adjust battle speed and random encounter rates.
The game is set in the world of Luxendarc, which is kept in balance by four elemental crystals protected by the Crystal Orthodoxy, a religious group with influence across the world. The story follows the adventures of four protagonists: Agnès Oblige, Tiz Arrior, Ringabel, and Edea Lee, as they aim to reclaim the four crystals from the darkness and confront a greater evil along the way. The gameplay includes a unique Brave and Default system, which allows players to time their turns tactically and turn the tides in their favor.
Bravely Default also includes a job system, where players can gain additional jobs by obtaining gems called "asterisks" from defeated human bosses. There are twenty-four jobs available, ranging from the agile Valkyrie to White and Black Mages that respectively specialize in healing and fighting magic. Players can assign any available job to their characters outside of battle and combine the skills of different jobs to create flexible strategies
The game also features networking features powered by the 3DS's StreetPass functionality, allowing players to interact with friends and build a village together. Additionally, the game includes a high-definition remaster titled Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster
