Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is an enhanced port of the original PlayStation game, bringing the classic RPG to the PSP with new CG cut scenes that dramatize the epic tale of a Norse maiden collecting souls for a war between the gods. The game follows Lenneth, a Valkyrie, who is tasked with traveling Midgard, the mortal world, to recruit and train the souls of worthy warriors to join the ranks of the Aesir in the Sacred War. Players assume a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the largest battle in Norse Mythology, as Lenneth must seek out, train, and command an army of fallen soldiers in preparation for the final battle against Surt, the leader of the Vanir.

The game features a unique time-based story progression system, where actions determine the outcome of Ragnarok. Players must recruit well to save Valhalla, or face destruction if they recruit poorly. The game is divided into eight chapters, each with different quests, dungeons, and items available. Each chapter is further divided into periods, depending on the difficulty, with players needing to budget their available time effectively. The game offers multiple endings based on crucial world-altering decisions, with the "real" ending being particularly challenging to achieve.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth also includes special enhancements that take advantage of the PSP system's capabilities, such as true 16 support and new CG sequences that give players a deeper understanding of the plot and complement the game's dramatic storyline. The game features a unique turn-based battle system, where the two sides wage battle during alternate turns, with the whole party sharing one turn and able to attack simultaneously during that turn. The game also includes a group experience system, where battle experience is divided among the active party members, but experience points obtained from dungeon exploration are banked for division among party members at the player's discretion
