Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug 5 are run and gun video games developed by SNK and released for the PlayStation 2 console. Both games are part of the Metal Slug series, known for its fast-paced action and over-the-top gameplay.
Metal Slug 4 was originally released in 2002 for the Neo-Geo MVS arcade platform and later ported to the PlayStation 2 in 2005. The game retains the classic Metal Slug gameplay, featuring a wide array of enemies, bosses, weapons, and vehicles. Players can choose from returning characters Marco and Fio, as well as new characters Trevor and Nadia. The game includes six challenging stages where players must battle Morden’s forces across various terrains, including air, sea, and land. Metal Slug 4 introduces a bonus scoring system that rewards players based on the number of enemies killed within a certain time frame.
Metal Slug 5, released in 2003 for the Neo-Geo MVS arcade platform, follows the same gameplay mechanics as Metal Slug 4. It features five massive stages and introduces new enemies and a storyline involving the theft of next-generation Metal Slug technology. Players must lead their team into the “Corridor of Fire” to recover the secrets and destroy the Ptolemaic Army. The game offers four playable characters: Marco, Tarma, Eri, and Fio. Like Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5 includes a variety of weapons, vehicles, and power-ups to aid players in their mission.
Both Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug 5 were released as a compilation for the PlayStation 2, providing players with two full games on separate CDs. The compilation was released on May 16, 2005, and has since become a popular choice for fans of the series. The games are rated Teen by the ESRB and have received generally positive reviews for their fast-paced action and nostalgic appeal.
