Need For Speed on The Run is an exhilarating racing game that puts you behind the wheel of some of the world's most powerful vehicles as you assume the role of Jack Rourke, a man who risks it all in an illegal race from San Francisco to New York The game features an extensive collection of races set against various real-life locations, including the cities of New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, and features a wide variety of real-life cars to drive in. In the game's single-player campaign, players take on the role of Jack Rourke, who is taking part in a large-scale race from San Francisco to New York, seeking to win it against various odds.

The game offers a variety of gameplay mechanics, including 26 episodes that could feature one of four different types of racing challenges. In a Timed Run, you'll need to reach your destination before the seconds tick away, while Pursuit challenges you to shake the cop cars on your tail and reach your goal before they can take you down. Catch-up mode will see you ripping up the road as you bid to overtake a rival racer, while Race simply calls on you to finish as high up the rankings as possible in a field of other drivers. The game also features a Rewind option that allows the player to restart an event to their last checkpoint if they wreck their vehicle or to rewind their vehicle from a collision or missed opportunity.

Need for Speed: The Run supports up to four players for split-screen racing. Choose to compete in a SPRINT for a conventional race to the finish against friends, or make things even more personal in COPS VS RACERS – a team-based game mode in which you can choose to try and evade friends as they give chase or attempt to take them out on behalf of the law. The game also features an experience points (XP) system used for unlocking cars and events in multiplayer and Challenge Series races
