Pokémon Emerald Version is a 2004 role-playing video game developed by Game Freak and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. It was first released in Japan in 2004, and was later released internationally in 2005. It is the fifth version, after both Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, and is the final game of the third generation of the Pokémon video game series. The game combines the best elements of Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, and Leaf Green to create the definitive Pokémon game for the Game Boy Advance. It expands upon the story from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire to create a truly epic narrative, where two warring secret societies plan to awaken legendary beasts that are said to have the power to reshape entire continents.
The gameplay in Emerald is largely the same as in Ruby and Sapphire. Players control a Pokémon trainer from an overhead perspective, exploring the Hoenn region and conquering a series of eight Pokémon Gyms to challenge the Elite Four and the Hoenn Pokémon League Champion. The game also features new elements such as the Battle Frontier, which is an expansion of the Battle Tower found in previous games. Players can also participate in Pokémon Contests, where they can try and win in five contest categories: "Cool", "Beauty", "Cute", "Smart", and "Tough". The game also includes several new features and changes such as animations of Pokémon in-battle and the ability to re-battle Gym Leaders.
