The Sega Nomad Handheld Console was developed and released by Sega in 1995 as a portable version of their popular home console, the Sega Genesis (known as the Mega Drive outside of North America). It was designed to run Sega Genesis game cartridges and features a 3.25-inch backlit color LCD display. Users have the option to power the console through an AC adapter, battery recharger, or six AA batteries, with a battery life of 2-3 hours. While it is not compatible with Sega CD, 32X, or Master System games, it is capable of playing unlicensed, homebrew, and bootleg games made for the Genesis. This console is based on the Japanese Sega Mega Jet, originally designed for airline flights, and was released in North America in October 1995. Regional lockout methods, both physical and software, are used to prevent unauthorized gameplay.
