The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Greatest Hits is a beat-'em-up action game for the Sony PlayStation 2, released in 2004. It follows the events from the first two films in the movie trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. The game is inspired by the battle scenes from the films, with the story told through footage from the movie that transitions into in-game cinematic screens. Players can choose from three warrior characters: Legolas the Elf, Aragorn the Ranger, or Gimli the Dwarf, and embark on a quest across various levels, including familiar locales like Fangorn Forest and the Mines of Moria.
Throughout the game, players face hordes of enemy orcs and other assailants, as well as fearsome boss creatures. Players can parry blows and execute melee and ranged attacks, along with combination attacks that reward players with varying grades based on the frequency and lavishness of the combo. The game features twelve main missions, with additional branching paths added at various junctures. Players will encounter familiar NPCs and occasionally fight alongside characters like Gandalf. The disc also offers unlockable extras, such as interviews with members of the film's cast, extra characters, and sneak peeks of the second movie in the trilogy.
The game has received positive reviews, with many players praising its nostalgic value and the integration of scenes from the movie into the gameplay. One reviewer noted that the game is a great experience for fans of the Peter Jackson film and has that iconic LOTR charm.
