Urban Chaos is a 1999 action-adventure game developed by Mucky Foot Productions and published by Eidos Interactive. Set in the fictional city of Union City, the game offers players a third-person perspective as they navigate through a series of free-roaming maps filled with indoor areas, people to interact with, and various missions to complete. The game features a complex fighting system that includes kicks, punches, throws, sliding tackles, and the use of melee weapons such as knives and baseball bats. Players can also arrest enemies, which can make the populace more friendly towards them. Later in the game, an additional character is introduced who is less agile but has more powerful attacks.
The story follows D'arci Stern, a rookie police officer who joins the Union City Police Department and deals with the increasing criminal activities of the Wildcats, a local gang. With the help of a vigilante named Roper McIntyre, D'arci uncovers a plot by the gang's leader, Mack Bane, who is also a candidate for mayor. The game's narrative takes a supernatural turn as D'arci and Roper face off against Bane's elite bodyguards, known as "The Fallen," and ultimately confront Bane's powers as an Ancient Warlock. The game includes 24 main levels, four bonus levels, and a separate demo level, offering a variety of challenges and objectives such as assaults, hostage rescues, and stopping someone from committing suicide.
