The Tyranitar 12/75 is a Holo Rare Darkness-type Stage 2 Pokémon card from the Neo Discovery expansion, released on June 1, 2001 by The Pokémon Company and illustrated by Hironobu Yoshida, the celebrated Japanese artist whose bold, dramatic brushwork and dark color palettes defined some of the most iconic Pokémon TCG artwork of the original era. As a 100 HP Pokémon that evolves from Pupitar, it carries no Weakness, a Psychic-type Resistance of −30, and a Retreat Cost of three Colorless Energy, making it one of the most defensively resilient Holo Rares in the 75-card master set. The "Cosmos Holo" designation refers to the distinctive star-and-circle foil pattern that was the standard holographic treatment for all Holo Rares from Base Set 2 through Call of Legends, giving the card a shimmering, celestial texture across the artwork window that collectors have come to associate with the era's premium printings.

In terms of decks and strategy, Tyranitar's two attacks make it one of the most devastating Holo Rares in the entire Neo era. Slam costs three Colorless Energy and involves flipping two coins, dealing 30 damage times the number of heads—a variable-damage attack with a theoretical maximum of 60 damage that maintained a reliable 30-damage floor on a single heads. Trample costs two Darkness and two Colorless Energy, and for each Benched Pokémon in play—both the player's and the opponent's—flips a coin: if heads, that Pokémon takes 30 damage without applying Weakness or Resistance. This sweeping bench-damage clause made Tyranitar a terrifying threat in 2001-era competitive formats, as it could chip away at an entire opponent's evolution line in a single attack, forcing difficult decisions about when to promote attackers. The absence of any Weakness meant Tyranitar could be played against virtually any opponent without fear of being super-effectively countered, and its Psychic Resistance of −30 made it a natural anchor in Darkness-focused strategies that punished Espeon-heavy and Psychic-type decks. In modern Unlimited and Expanded formats, Tyranitar remains a competitive threat in Darkness-focused strategies, and its role as the final evolution of the Larvitar  Pupitar  Tyranitar line makes it a natural capstone for any Rock/Darkness evolution strategy.

Collectors love the Neo Discovery Tyranitar for its status as one of the most mechanically aggressive and visually striking Holo Rares in the entire Neo era, a card whose sweeping Trample attack represented a design philosophy of board-wide pressure that was remarkably bold for 2001. Hironobu Yoshida's illustration—depicting Tyranitar in a towering, menacing pose with its massive arms raised and its small eyes glowing with primal fury against a dark, rocky backdrop—captures the raw, overwhelming power of the species in a way that stands out among the more conventional artwork of the set's other Holo Rares like Espeon, Umbreon, and Scizor. The card's no-Weakness stat block, combined with its 100 HP pool and Psychic Resistance, gives it a defensive profile that no other Neo Discovery Holo Rare can match, making it a genuine powerhouse on the battlefield as well as a stunning piece of art. As a Stage 2 that requires the full investment of a two-turn evolution line to reach, Tyranitar occupies a structurally important position within the set's evolution ecosystem, and its permanently fixed supply—combined with over 25 years of natural wear from the massive population of Neo Discovery cards that were opened, played, and traded in the early 2000s—ensures that quality raw copies remain a cornerstone target for both set completionists and players of Unlimited format tournaments who still appreciate the creative board-wide pressure mechanics of the Neo era's most dominant Darkness-type Pokémon.
